The issue is not well defined and appears to shift in presentation. Please be reassured, I'm ready to help quickly. Initial concerns: About two weeks ago my software began failing. Initially, Discord would crash and restart unexpectedly, then games would stop at the end of each round—this was unusual. The situation intensified over time, leading to growing frustration because I couldn't resolve it. I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows, but the problem persisted. Recently, most driver updates fail, and I encounter various errors while browsing online. Notably, my Intel chipset drivers don’t install properly, and Nvidia drivers also have trouble. The most puzzling failure is with Nvidia drivers: when attempting installation on a clean Windows setup, the installer crashes immediately, then after a few minutes the screen flickers and the Nvidia control panel appears. I've spent considerable time with Microsoft support trying to determine if it's a Windows issue, but even after receiving updates that let me install Windows without crashes, other components still fail and risk further problems. Some drivers work in Safe Mode, allowing LAN drivers to install normally. I observed the Q-LED on my ASUS motherboard flashing during use, yet all available troubleshooting guides from ASUS only describe the LEDs lighting up during startup without explaining their meaning while the system runs. Problem Checklist: - Nvidia drivers fail in multiple ways
- Error: Driver not compatible with current Windows version
- Sudden shutdown and restart after crashes
- Fails during setup with specific error messages
- Intel chipset drivers show unknown errors
- Steam and games install but never launch properly
- System specs: CPU i9-14900k, Motherboard ASUS Prime z790-A, RAM 4x16GB DDR5, GPU G.Skill Ripjaws S5, Storage Samsung 980 Pro, OS Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Troubleshooting steps attempted:
- Tested RAM configurations extensively
- Switched SSD to 500GB Samsung 970 EVO
- Updated BIOS and reset CMOS
- Updated motherboard to ASUS TUF z790-Plus WIFI
- Ran a clean boot of Windows
- Enabled Safe Mode for installation
- Used Microsoft Repair Update to reinstall Windows
- Disabled all non-Microsoft services
- Attempted "Repair upgrade" via support (unexpected)
- Continued experiencing crashes and failures elsewhere

For anyone encountering this discussion later: The issue ended up being a faulty CPU. After a week of stress, I upgraded both my motherboard and CPU to see what would work. Swapping out the CPU resolved the problems. I didn’t have a method to inspect the CPU’s performance, so I expected crashes to be more severe if it were defective. Now I’m handling the warranty with Intel, and the problems clearly stemmed from the CPU.
