I’m encountering an issue with the audio driver on my MSI Nightblade mi.2.

Please note: I prefer to avoid utilizing Nahimic 2 due to my desire for pristine audio quality and a preference against background software consuming system resources.

The problem began with intermittent audio disruptions and stuttering, particularly noticeable during games with extensive sound effects—such as explosions, voices, and ambient noises—especially in titles like Call of Duty during intense combat scenarios or Battlefield. However, this issue is not consistently present in World of Warcraft.

To investigate the problem, I initially removed Nahimic and then attempted these steps:

1. I installed the newest Realtek HDA driver, obtained from an online source (dated January 2020). Unfortunately, this did not resolve the audio problems in affected games and now also manifested within World of Warcraft (with similar stuttering during explosions, background sounds and other audio elements).
2. I installed the original driver from MSI’s website, a dated version from 2015. While I haven't been able to fully test it in games yet, immediately, the microphone functionality within Teamspeak and Discord suffered severe distortion.

I’ve explored online forums and discovered numerous Realtek HDA driver versions, but I haven't located a more recent version compatible with my MSI system that doesn’t rely on Nahimic 2 and avoids compatibility issues.

Consequently, I'm seeking guidance on which driver to select and which version to install. Is it possible to operate without Nahimic? What settings would you recommend to minimize audio problems while gaming?

My operating system is the latest version (November 2019) with all subsequent updates applied. I use headphones connected through the front ports of my Nightblade. My system specifications include an Intel i7 6700 CPU, a GTX 1070 graphics card, and 16 GB of RAM.

Thank you for any assistance provided.

I approached this differently and streamlined my approach. Over the last few days, I initially attempted to resolve my stuttering issue by following advice from a technical website and modifying boot settings related to synchronization and delay. I made those adjustments two days ago. Last night, however, I installed the appropriate REALTEK + NAHIMIC driver—obtained directly from MSI and updated solely through their update application. The outcome? Besides the persistent issue of Nahimic failing to open repeatedly, I experienced a consistent slowdown in my operating system, significantly degraded audio quality within Discord, and noticeable pauses in graphics performance across all games. It was a complete failure. Subsequently, I recalled those previously altered settings and reverted to the original boot configuration using bcedit, removing...

Do your monitor displays flicker during gameplay?
Ensure you’ve installed the newest version of your motherboard firmware.
Have you experimented with different headsets?
Check the back-mounted ports for sound and microphone inputs.
Test it using Nahimic, to determine if the issue stems from software or a hardware malfunction.

Unfortunately, the game runs smoothly with high frame rates and graphics settings, but audio occasionally experiences brief interruptions. The BIOS has been updated to the newest version offered. I’ll attempt a different solution. Considering Nahimic, I believe that might be necessary; let's see if it works. Appreciated.

I approached the issue differently, aiming for simplicity. Over the last few days, I’d been attempting to resolve my stuttering issue by following advice from a technical website that recommended altering boot settings concerning synchronization and delay times. I made these changes two days prior. However, last night, I installed the appropriate REALTEK + NAHIMIC driver, obtained directly from MSI and updated solely through their MSI Update tool. The outcome? Besides Nahimic, which consistently refuses to open despite repeated attempts, I experienced a pervasive system slowdown, significantly degraded audio quality in Discord, and persistent graphical hiccups within games. It was a complete failure.

Subsequently, I recalled those initial parameter modifications (thankfully). I reverted the boot settings using bcedit back to their original state, removed Nahimic and its associated Realtek driver. I then restarted my computer, enabling Windows to automatically install the correct driver through its update system. Instantly, everything functioned flawlessly. While I lost the audio enhancement features of Nahimic, I gained complete freedom from stuttering and a fully operational system – this included smooth performance in games and Discord.

Lesson learned: generally, utilizing drivers supplied by the manufacturer is preferable; however, with MSI systems – and particularly when dealing with their pre-built configurations – it's often more effective to update and maintain drivers utilizing Windows Update, particularly for audio drivers given Realtek’s frequently varied versions.
