Hello. I own an EVGA 790i motherboard for a NVIDIA focused build, and it uses DDR3 RAM. Recently I found out OCZ created NVIDIA themed RAM sticks that are actually DDR2. The issue is whether I can reuse the heatsinks from those DDR2 modules on a bare DDR3 module. OCZ PC2 6400: https://imgur.com/a/YAqWxPS

You're using an DDR3 motherboard and want to transfer heatsinks from a DDR2 RAM setup to the DDR3 one.

Just because? It’s not that the DDR3 really requires heatsinks... they just seem to be added. Make sure you place them on the side where you can see them clearly.

Why are these heatsinks doing nothing? You probably need them to improve performance.
