I don’t like Realtek NICs much, especially with limited Linux support. I’ve faced problems with VLANs and other issues before. If you upgrade to a better network card, it makes sense to invest in an Intel model. Also, where are the 2.5G switches? It seems unnecessary to install them when there aren’t good options available.

There is a 1G Intel LAN and a 2.5G connection. It seems like a direct link to the NAS. The B550 isn't intended as a workstation device, so it likely isn't designed for internet use.

It should likely take about two decades for reasonably priced, user-friendly 2.5G switches to become available. It probably won’t be coming any time soon.

At this moment, only real use is if you have a 10G switch (which supports 2.5GBASE-T) or if you connect two PCs directly. But this is the step where it's all beginning to get more affordable switches. Switches won't be made until there is a actual use/demand for them. I'd say starting from the motherboards is a pretty starting point. That will eventually lead to affordable switches as soon as the 2.5G matures a bit and becomes more widely implemented on motherboards (that is, also on Intel side, eventuallyt laptops etc).
