downsampling compared to resolution scale
downsampling compared to resolution scale
I tried various methods to enhance my 1080p monitor in games, discovering AMD's Virtual Super Resolution (VSR) and Nvidia's DSR, both involving downsampling. After adjusting my resolution to 4K and then back to 1080p with the scale slider at 200%, the improvement became noticeable. However, I'm still unsure why downsampling doesn't produce similar results.
I ran a quick test with my Radeon VII and noticed the same issue. It seems the Gaussian filter is reducing quality, making it appear less detailed or lower quality.
I understand you want to verify if the downsampling issue is related to your monitor.
Neither increasing the scale resolution beyond 100 will improve your frame rates. If you use DSR, switch to 4k and play at 4k. I’m here to let you know you can’t. Unless you have a 2080Ti with around 60fps, compared to triple-digit FPS in AAA games and lower resolution, DSR won’t work well on your desktop. The fonts and other elements are distorted. Just stick to 1080p or higher, and avoid scaling and similar issues.
