Yes, I've done it, as a matter of fact I just did it with BF3. To the OP, just install Origin on the PC, buy(for free) the game and then stop the download process, it will stay in your library for you to download it whenever you can.

You add the game to your collection, and once it's there you'll receive the confirmation email for your purchase. You don't have to begin downloading anything.
