Download and upload speeds noticeably lower than those of other devices on the same network?
My Windows 11 PC is experiencing much slower download and upload speeds than other PCs connected to the same Ethernet network. I'm using an Asus Tuf Gaming B760 Plus WiFi motherboard. I've tried various solutions—reset commands, network adapter settings, power-saving options, even swapping the cable. The only improvement was from a TCP optimiser, which only increased speed by about 200 Mbps, still leaving it at 500 Mbps down and up. Other devices on my network are performing much better, around 950 Mbps.
Often the tcp optimizer worsens performance. The default configuration from Microsoft is usually already fine-tuned. These kinds of tools were useful before the TCP sliding window was introduced in Windows years back. I’m not sure what ASUS refers to as their "gaming" network software or bloatware that comes with the motherboard. A typical name is CFOSSPEED. You should remove any such programs. It’s absurd—nothing you run on your machine influences latency beyond your device, and if you’re facing delays inside the system, there’s likely a bigger problem or you’re doing something wrong. You might also try a different browser, and make sure the speedtest uses the same server location as your PC.
As suggested, eliminate or uninstall any network optimization tools that come with the motherboard, then reset the network again.
2. Boot into a live Linux USB and test your speed using www.speedtest.net and www.librespeed.org, recording results for both operating systems.
Thank you for all the responses. I've updated the MB bios and downloaded the latest drivers for the LAN controller from the ASUS website. I haven't tried the Linux boot yet, but I plan to do that soon. The current connection speeds are approximately 500 Mbps down and 500 Mbps up. Other devices on my network report speeds between 950 - 1100 Mbps both directions. I'll also consider removing network software. Other devices on the network have confirmed their speeds match mine.
