Hello Everyone! I need a bit of advice here. My current configuration is what I’m using. I recently installed a home server for personal use and am planning to set up a public team connection with plans to host my own website in the future. Router 1 is the main house router, but I don’t have access to its port forwarding or settings. Router 2 is my apartment router, which I’ve customized extensively—so we actually have two separate Wi-Fi networks from what I understand. Our provider only gives one IP address per house, right? The cable enters the house and goes into the modem, then the modem connects to Router 1, which in turn goes to the switch. Router 2 is connected to the switch along with my dad’s PC. My desktop and server are on Router 2. I’d like to connect both routers from the modem to both networks so they’re completely separate. All the information I’ve gathered seems outdated. I’m really hoping someone can help me out! Thanks!

You can't connect directly from modem to switch because you probably have just one public IP address. The router’s WAN uses NAT to change your private addresses into its public one. To run two separate LANs on the same internet connection, consider a device that supports VLANs. Alternatively, you might purchase an Ubiquiti Edgerouter offering multiple RJ45 ports so you avoid VLAN complexity, and pair it with two unmanaged switches for both LAN and AP since built-in Wi-Fi isn’t available.
