Start by discussing the issue with your partner. Make sure nothing unusual is being removed, then scan with Malwarebytes multiple times and cleanse several times using Cleaner to eliminate any traces. You should be fine.

Use your antivirus to scan your PC. Also, look in "My Computer" or "My PC" and remove any unfamiliar software you don’t recognize.

Great, I'm not alone in having that idea too, right?

I've noticed that several adware applications modify the shortcut to launch a program, often adding a line that runs additional tasks in front of the browser. When you right-click the shortcut, open its properties, and check for unusual entries.

I have a personal top pick: Super-Anti-Spyware. It might seem exaggerated, but it’s powerful enough. It removes tracking cookies, deletes temporary files on request, detects PUPs, viruses, Trojans, and more. You can specify what you want it to scan—everything from small tasks to deep-rooted threats. It offers options for speed settings (low or high boost), file size limits (default under 4MB), and date changes. Perfect for quick scans, though it struggles with complex or system-restored malware.
