Hello, I'm trying to upgrade my desktop and following some suggestions from your channel. I'm considering the Ryzen 5 3600 GTX 1660 Super G.Skill RipjawsV 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz. For the motherboard, I was thinking about the B450 Tomahawk, but then I saw the X570 Gaming X which costs a bit more but supports PCIe 4.0. Since I plan to keep this build for at least five years and might need to upgrade the GPU or RAM later, is the X570 a better option? I believe upgrading the GPU would likely work better with PCIe 4.0, making it more future-proof. Thanks for your help!

This specific board (along with x570 UD) doesn't justify the extra 50 euros. The most affordable option I’d suggest is Asus x570-P. The best balance of price and performance comes from Asus x570-Plus TUF Gaming and Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite. Ryzen 4xxx will still fit on AM4 sockets. Once that’s confirmed, AMD plans may shift to DDR5 and possibly USB 4 support (which covers Thunderbolt), requiring a move to AM5 or similar. It’s uncertain if they’ll support Ryzen 5xxx with DDR4 yet. B450 boards should handle Ryzen 4xxx, but this depends on whether the B550 chipset gets widely adopted and is available in volume. If so, AMD might advise keeping older boards compatible with PCIe 4.0 to push adoption of PCIe 4.0 across devices.
Available graphics cards today lack support for PCIe Gen4.0 features. We may see improvements in the coming years.
Agree here. I have the aorus elite, but I feel a bit silly about it now. If/when my wife decides she wants more performance I'm planning to use a tomahawk for that upgrade. The aorus has been great for me so far, but the extra money was a waste for me personally.

There are also B450 Gaming Plus and B450-A Pro, which are reliable and more affordable.
