Does Windows 10 freeze when the blue logo appears at startup?
Hi all,
I'm experiencing difficulties starting Windows 10 on my computer. It freezes right after the blue logo appears and the spinning dots disappear. I've reinstalled Windows multiple times using various SSDs, but it didn't help. Using a recovery USB resolves the issue.
On the other hand, removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard allows me to boot into Windows 10 without problems. Once I reinsert the battery, the issue resurfaces. I've changed the battery several times and kept all BIOS settings unchanged. I'm wondering if the motherboard itself might be the cause?
Here are my system details:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 (rev 1.0) Socket AM3+
CPU: AMD FX-8150 Eight-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti
RAM: 16.0 GB Unknown
OS: Windows 10 Home Edition
Appreciate any assistance you can provide.
I generally tackle power issues first on my side. I was looking at the original specifications there. The last time I encountered an AMD FX CPU was in my very first gaming PC using an MSI 970 Gaming with an MSI GTX 1060, 3GB and 8GB of DDR3 1886Mhz. Your storage and PSU are important because this situation only occurs when there isn’t enough power for the system to fully run. The cogwheel not showing is normal—likely because it was disabled or otherwise. Check the power consumption first; if that’s the cause, the motherboard may need inspection.
Hi, sorry for the delayed response.
The issue resolved itself eventually. It might have been a minor problem with the first X boots. I ended up using an FX CPU because it was included free with a budget motherboard I received. Honestly, it’s not as problematic as others claim and can handle CPU-heavy games like Civ 6 smoothly. Temperatures remain well below 50°C even under maximum load. The older FX still shows its age in single-threaded tasks, though. I noticed GTA 4 is especially demanding on that chip.
I’ve heard the Vishera refresh 8350 offers a significant upgrade over the old Zambezi 8150 and might be worth considering if I can find a cheaper model. Unfortunately, I can’t overclock it since my motherboard lacks a VRM heatsink—remembering what FX is like!
