Does Toshiba Satellite M55-S1001 need a new CPU?
I'm trying to upgrade the processor on my Toshiba Satellite M55-S1001. Looking around, there are many different models available, and as far as I can tell, the fastest one in this lineup is the Pentium M 750, which is a big step up from the base model's Celeron M 380. I'm wondering if the new processor would simply fit into my laptop right away without needing to change anything else, or if the motherboards are incompatible with it. The CPU uses the same socket as the motherboard, based on what I found online and in photos of the board itself. I haven't opened up the laptop yet because it is currently my only one, and getting a new computer isn't really an option for me -- I already spent a lot of money on this laptop just for its look and feel. Also, I'm scared to tear it apart until I've planned everything out, since I'm not really good at working with hardware upgrades. On the side note, I need to find out exactly what CPU options are available, and ideally which one is the most powerful, especially since high-end computers aren't that special after 15 years. As a bonus, if anyone could point me to a reliable place where I can buy old CPUs for this upgrade, I'd give you a cookie emoji. TL;DR: I need to figure out what my CPU upgrade options are.
