Alternative options exist. When using the previous setup, you must configure the Asus in repeater mode. This allocates at least one frequency for wireless backhaul to the main router, meaning any wireless devices linked to the Asus will only access the remaining channel. Additionally, a repeated wireless signal depends entirely on the initial signal strength it receives. Placing it in an area with poor coverage will result in weak backhaul, regardless of how strong the repeater broadcasts. This arrangement can add more delay compared to a direct wired connection to a switch. The latter mode keeps clients on all bands since the backhaul uses Ethernet uplink. This setup avoids latency problems common in repeater configurations and usually performs more consistently when properly arranged. In both configurations, the Ethernet ports on the Asus remain available for wired devices, though performance is higher in AP mode than in repeater mode.
