I'm not sure if this forum fits here, but I have a question: My friend had his laptop's screen suddenly break and sent me some photos. The screen looks fine when he uses another big monitor. From these pictures, is it more likely that the broken part is inside the panel itself? Would that mean I should probably buy a new one right away?

Do you make or buy laptops? What are the specs? Maybe try re-installing those display drivers first. Check out an external video port and try a different monitor that's already known to work (it has no discoloration). The point is to get rid of other possible problems and issues.

I have a MSI GE72 2QD Apache Pro laptop, but I don't know all the hardware specs except it has an 17-inch Intel screen, 8GB of RAM, and a GTX 960 card. It also has an M.2 SSD and HDD, and drivers are already fixed. I tried connecting my external monitor too, but that worked fine for me too. Now I want to know if there is any chance the problem is in a part of the motherboard that isn't connected to the same wire as the video port?

It could be an issue with the LVDS part, but you can check the screen on the back of the computer and reconnect it. However, you must turn off all power and disconnect the battery first because there is a continuous power circuit in the LVDS that can cause dangerous shorts if left connected. After checking the cable for damage, if everything looks fine then he will need to send it out for professional service or use a different display to test it properly.
