hello!
brand new Corsair SF1000L PSU fan started emitting a weird noise after about one month of use. the noise started yesterday and it is driving me a bit insane, especially because the 30 day return period ended yesterday.
the question: is this noise normal, and would you RMA this?
thank you very much for reading!
video of the noise:

pc specs:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HXtZpB
notes about the video:
system idle (after light browsing)
ambient temperature 28 c
all other 8 fans running at around 20-30%
pump at 75% (inaudible)
noise stops when psu fan stops
side panel doesn't dampen the sound
edit: forgot to mention that this is a "zero rpm mode" psu, which doesn't turn the fan on under 400w load (according to the manual), which is more than the maximum load of my current setup

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! You may introduce Corsair and share your video or audio clip with them. If the fan isn't supposed to be increasing before 400W, that's not what we're observing in your video. The noise appears to originate from the fan as well, possibly due to coil whine. Could you try one more step? Roll up an A4 sheet into a cylinder and place one end against your ear, using the other to probe for the sound source. See if you can pinpoint it to the bearing of the fan or the VRM area on the motherboard. What is the BIOS version of your motherboard at this moment?

bios date: 05/24/2024
version: 19.05 (just spotted it’s a beta release)
they introduced a newer (beta) update since then (19.06 - 2024/7/2), with the latest stable being 18.01 (2024/1/12).
the issue seems resolved—no noise from the motherboard detected. It appears the PSU fan is now disabled in BIOS: c-state support, cpu c states support, pci express native control. This change might have improved the sound quality!
thank you for your assistance!
edit: I realized my earlier comment was a bit confusing.
to be clear: the PSU is now quieter, possibly due to the fan spinning slower. I’ll keep testing, as I’m still unsure if this is related to bearing or coil whine.

the default xmp profile appeared to be the root cause. i'll need to investigate further, but for now the psu is operating quietly!
my idea: allowing the xmp profile to run silently changes some bios parameters (currently set to auto), which might result in increased voltages and more heat production.
