I just reinstalled Windows 10 to a clean new build again, targeting version 10074. At first I thought it might be reacting to using Google Chrome, but later it asked about my recommendation likelihood. It makes me think Microsoft is curious about which apps tech users rely on. Thoughts?
I really enjoy certain concepts from Windows 8 on a tablet, but on a desktop I wasn't doing well.
Launchpad is the term you need. The Start Menu in Windows 8.1 works well on tablets but can feel less natural for those using a mouse and keyboard.
It’s understandable to see some shortcomings, but overall it falls short in certain areas. The Start Menu doesn’t provide enough power for advanced users, and the interface seems overly complicated for touch or desktop users. I wish Microsoft had created a menu that worked well for everyone. Still, I think version 8.1 remains a solid choice compared to 7.10.
I concur. Functions like WDDM 1.3 and various speed enhancements position it as a superior operating system for gaming or everyday tasks on budget PCs.
You can skip it—just click the Start button and get a text version of the old menu. -OR- Simply enter your search term directly on the Start screen. True power users often avoid using the mouse for everything, making the older menu setup less convenient for them.
