I own a Windows 11 system on my home computer with an HP optical mouse that I've used for over five years. I recently purchased some inexpensive cloth-type mouse pads from Amazon in the US, but none of them function properly. I tested both sides of the pads and didn't notice any plastic cover. Could there be a solution? I bought a 3-pack.

OTHERWISE, my workplace provided me with a very affordable, cloth-style mouse pad that has performed well for more than three years!

Additionally, I typically buy mouse pads with a plastic surface, which seem to last longer. Is it normal for them to wear out? I wash them occasionally because over one to two months the mouse becomes increasingly difficult to move. I apply lotion to my hands in winter, which might be transferring onto the pad. When I move the mouse across the pad, it doesn't respond much on the screen. Eventually, after three or more years, they fail and I replace them. That's why I decided to try a cloth mouse pad.

Thank you!

The lotion or "grease" from your hands can severely damage mouse mats and pads, often needing detailed cleaning with detergents. However, sometimes there are areas that remain unaffected. I've experienced this with three Deskmats over six years; as someone who tends to be disorganized at my desk, it makes sense. Cleaning them doesn't always resolve the issue. Try testing on a different surface or using another mat. Some low-cost mouse mats are poorly woven and don't hold up well to laser cleaning because of their holes. Hope this helps.

The issue has been resolved. I inserted air into the mouse hole with the red light, which removed the dust. Everything functions properly now.
