Does the laptop shut down when placed in sleep mode overnight?
Laptop Model: Lenovo Ideapad 330-17IKB 81DM001UUS
Operating System: Windows 11
When the laptop is placed in sleep mode and closed, it powers off automatically after being left overnight, then needs to be restarted. After restarting, it starts up normally.
I have attempted various solutions in Control Panel > Power Options, but nothing has resolved the issue.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I should have expressed myself more clearly. The closing lid choices only include "Do Nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut Down." I checked Power Options and found only those options. I haven’t tried Hibernate yet, but I plan to do so this evening. For "Change when the computer sleeps," I didn’t see much beyond setting the sleep duration for plugged-in devices. No further assistance available.
Initially I didn't understand what they were referring to by reinstalling Power management - it seems to be setting it back to the default settings.
Sure, I considered submitting the question to the Lenovo Community. Also, appreciate the clarification. I restored the power plan to the default setting but had no success. I attempted Power Options to "hibernate," but it shut down the laptop right away.
Try a clean boot to observe any changes – follow the guidance carefully and ensure no Microsoft services are disabled or Windows won’t load properly. This method doesn’t remove files, it simply halts non-Microsoft programs during startup. If the issue resolves, it likely points to a startup program. You should restart the stopped programs one by one to pinpoint the culprit. This process helps confirm whether the problem stems from a program rather than a software glitch.
Colif, hmm... I arrived this morning and opened the lid without having to start the PC. It went straight to the desktop.
Yesterday I only did two things... in Power Options I reset the power plan to default (I’m sure I did that before), and instead of selecting a "time" to "Put the computer to sleep," I chose "Never."
I didn’t check if it was blinking or asleep when I opened it, or if it was running and not sleeping all night. I’ll revert it back and set a time today, then let you know what it does in the morning.
I’ll need to gather my courage before trying the clean boot option.
Blink11... thanks, I’ll check the video.
Have you attempted disabling the Windows System Uninterrupted Timeout setting? You need to do this in the registry, and it only requires altering a value from 1 to 2 before accessing the power control panel. I’m unsure how much you’d feel comfortable modifying registry entries, but it’s definitely an alternative.
G-unit1111, thank you. I'll definitely keep that as an option if things don't get sorted out. I'm not worried about entering the registry if I trust the source. However, I'm turning 80 next year and it's been a long time since I've had to back up my stuff and everything. 😳
😊
Make sure to save your changes before proceeding with any registry adjustments.
Check if there are any old driver issues that might affect sleep quality.
Have you performed an auto update?
Review the reliability history for any hardware errors that could be causing problems.
Windows treats unexpected restarts or shutdowns as faults, which might prevent the laptop from powering back on if the screen is off.
