Does the GPU upgrade really make sense?
I'm considering upgrading my RX 6600 8GB GPU to an RX 9060 XT 16GB. Will it be beneficial? I aim for native performance in AAA games, but the graphics look poor on FS-R. I plan to switch my monitor to 1440p later. The RX 9060 XT uses PCIe 5, will that create a bottleneck? Thanks.
My current specs:
Motherboard: Asrock B550M Pro4
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
GPU: Asrock RX 6600 Challenger
RAM: Adata XPG Gammix DDR4 3200MHz 16x2 GB
PSU: 1stPlayer DK Premium PS-600AX 80+ Bronze 600W
I’d recommend considering an improvement. Check out the charts from this review. The 6600 performed well near the bottom, while the 9060xt sat in the middle.
AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB Review
AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT is available in two versions—only one offers good value. The 16GB version competes with Nvidia in price, delivers comparable performance, and could be the best option...
Your CPU might struggle at 1080p. If you’re evaluating upgrades, a GPU change would likely be beneficial. You might also want to upgrade your power supply unit, though I’m not familiar with the brand and may prefer a higher-quality PSU during the process.
Performance is nearly triple in some titles, like Oblivion remastered. Average performance doubles across 18 games in raster. I believe it would be a good upgrade.
What kinds of games do you enjoy?
Some are restricted by graphics quality, such as fast-paced action shooters.
Others depend on CPU speed, like strategy, sims, and multiplayer games.
Multiplayer usually benefits from more connections.
To see if your CPU can handle a more powerful graphics card, try this test:
Run your games, but reduce the resolution and visual effects.
This helps the graphics card perform better.
An increase in FPS suggests your CPU is capable of supporting a stronger graphics setup.
If your FPS remains unchanged, you’re likely more CPU-limited.
Only the most powerful graphics cards will notice this change when installed in a PCI 3/4/5 slot, and even then only slightly.
I’d recommend considering an improvement. Check out the charts from this review. The 6600 performed well near the bottom, while the 9060xt sat in the middle.

Check out the benchmarks shared in a previous article by ohio_buckeye. They evaluate GPUs using the most powerful CPUs available, such as the 9800x3d from AMD. Based on the figures you shared, you should achieve around 140fps in CP2077 with ultra settings on a sufficiently fast GPU.
