Does pressing Tab after freezing from Rust affect the system when switching to another window or the taskbar?
This issue occurs only with Rust and not in any other game.
I’m playing Rust and after some time, when I switch tabs or open another window via the taskbar, it freezes. The error message appears: "The application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait. Do you want to end this process?" After that, regardless of my actions, the situation remains unchanged. I can’t access the Task Manager, can’t use Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and the only solution is to restart the PC.
I’ve tried reinstalling the game, adjusting in-game settings, resetting the PC, updating drivers, and updating the BIOS. Still nothing works.
Anyone have suggestions on what else I should try?
My system details are:
Processor: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700F, 2100 Mhz, 12 cores, 20 logical processors
Graphics Card: NVIDIA RTX 3070
RAM: 16 GB
Storage: SSD and plenty of space
This typically occurs when playing in full screen. I discovered a workaround for Rust without a Windowed mode:
Right-click on the game title in the Library section of Steam and choose Properties.
Go to the General tab and click the Set launch options... button. Enter the following option (with hyphen):
-popupwindow
Close the game's Properties window and start the game.
In the Rust Configuration window, select the "Windowed" option.
It seems like there might be an overheating concern or a memory issue. Check the temperatures using MSI Afterburner and perform a memory test. Also, ensure your drivers are current. If these steps don’t resolve it, look into verifying game files and see if that makes a difference.
Following several tests, it seems there could be an issue with memory.
