Does OBS perform better with excessive CPU usage or multiple processor cores?
Over the next few weeks, I’m assembling a fresh computer for streaming, gaming, and general multi-tasking. Currently, I’m leaning away from Ryzen processors and considering either the i7-8700K or the i7-9700K. I understand that the 9700K offers superior gaming performance compared to the 8700K. During my investigation, I was unable to locate information addressing my specific query, and my response will ultimately determine which CPU to purchase. Thank you in advance.
Despite a lack of direct comparisons between these two processors, analysis of the provided test results indicates that OBS favors a higher thread count when operating at comparable clock speeds, while also relying heavily on processing power. Given their nearly identical base clock speeds, it’s likely they would deliver remarkably similar performance with the 8700k potentially having a minor advantage.
However, I would select the 9700k due to its superior performance in games and applications not optimized for hyper-threading. Regardless of which CPU is utilized, you can confidently maintain a 1080p/60 stream without any CPU limitations.

There’s roughly a $50 disparity between the Ryzen 8700G build and the Ryzen 9700G build; this represents the largest single purchase I've ever made. Considering significant price fluctuations for the 10 series graphics cards due to limited production, the GTX 1070 remains the most affordable GPU that allows me to utilize my 144Hz monitor.
