Does my VRM provide sufficient power for CPU overclocking?
Does my VRM provide sufficient power for CPU overclocking?
Hi all! I'm currently considering overclocking my budget CPU as it is able to do so (AMD A8-7650K)
However, I've read a few scare stories and warnings about the VRM on the motherboard.
My motherboard is a MSI A68HM Grenade motherboard and I can see 6 VRM Chokes on the board (I think this means I have 6 phases?) which seems good, but they have no form of cooling.
No heatsink or fans and whatnot. According to my motherboard box, they're rated for 60 amps rather than 40 amps, if that makes a difference.
Anyway, my real question is this, does it sound suitable for an OC of my CPU? Thanks!
It's okay to try the A8. Check out some guides and reviews beforehand, then give it a go.
I added two of them; you can find more.

A8-7650k overclock
Hello everyone, so far thanks to others in different threads I've managed my A8-7650k to remain stable at around 4.4ghz with a +1.68v boost from the stock setting (all on a stock air cooler), though temperatures reach about 84°C when idle. 4.5 seems to run for a few hours without any performance drops...
