Does my laptop turn off when I leave it idle overnight?
Does my laptop turn off when I leave it idle overnight?
Here is a simplified version:
My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 330-17IKB with the model number 81DM001UUS running Windows 11. When I put it to sleep and close the lid, it shuts down on its own if I leave it alone all night. It wakes up in the morning but needs a restart to start working again. I tried changing settings inside Control Panel > Power Options, but nothing helped. I'd appreciate some help. Thanks
So, what specific settings in Power Options were you trying to alter? Did you decide whether the computer turns off or stays on when your screen goes dark from closing your laptop?
I should have explained this better. The "Close Lid" choices are just: Nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut Down. I only looked at the Power Options tab and found nothing else there. I haven't tried Hibernate yet, but I will do so tonight. Regarding the setting that changes when the computer sleeps, I saw no other options besides picking how long to wait before it goes to sleep when plugged in. So I have no luck there either. There is nowhere else to go except those two places in Power Options. Any tips or thoughts would be great.
I wasn't sure who you were at the beginning. It looks like the words "English Community" and "Lenovo Community" are just labels people use, maybe even for a test. When we talk about restarting power settings to their default values, it means putting things back to what they used to be before. If someone visits this site from another place called the English Community or the Lenovo Community, that's probably why it works that way.
Try doing a clean boot and see what happens - just follow the steps in this link so don't turn off any Microsoft services, or Windows might stop starting up: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help...in-windows It won't delete anything, it just stops other programs from running when you start. That's easy to undo anyway. If the clean boot helps, then it means one of those startup programs is causing the problem. You should restart all of them over time until you find which specific program is causing trouble. That way, you can be sure it isn't a program that just makes things go wrong when they start up.
Colif, hmm...I just got here this morning, opened the lid on the computer, and it didn't even need me to start it. It went right straight to my desktop screen already. Yesterday I only did two things...in Power Options I reset the power plan back to default (I'm pretty sure I had done that before), and instead of picking a specific time for "Put the computer to sleep," I chose to set it so the computer never sleeps. I forgot to check if it was blinking and asleep when I opened it, or if it wasn't sleeping at all while I was just sitting there. I will fix this back up later today and put a specific time in it so you can see what happens then. I'll have to get my nerve up before trying the clean boot option though. Blink11...thanks! I'm going to take a look at that video now.
Have you tried turning off the Windows System Uninterrupted Timeout feature? That means doing it in the registry and all it involves is just changing a 1 to a 2, and then opening the power control panel. I don't know how comfortable you would be changing registry values, but that's always an option.
g-unit1111, thanks so much! I'll definitely keep that option open just in case things don't work out for me. Being honest about my setup is okay with me. But yeah, pushing 80 next year and it's been a while since I had to actually get into it and save all the files. 😳 😊
