I currently use a Ryzen 5 1600 but am limited by an A320 board, preventing me from overclocking the CPU. I’m considering switching to a new motherboard with better features such as NVMe storage and more USB 3.1 ports. Since I can already overclock my CPU to 144Hz, I’m wondering what effect that would have on my 1080p gaming performance (my RAM is already at 2933MHz in dual channel, so little improvement expected there).

If your GPU isn't limiting performance, boosting the CPU frequency to 3.9G across all cores (common for gen 1 Ryzen) consistently could make a clear difference. The actual advantage would rely on whether the CPU is restricting the GPU's capabilities or vice versa. What GPU are you using?

Just keep in mind, you can't predict exactly how successful each CPU will be. Performance depends on cooling and the luck of choosing a good chip. I suggest a B450 for its features and OC capabilities.
