Hi everyone
I own an Rx 6600xt and a Ryzen 5 5500 with 16GB of RAM. I’m planning to upgrade the CPU first to a Ryzen 5700x3d, then the GPU to an 9060xt. I’m going for the CPU upgrade mainly because the performance is very poor, especially in games. I’m not sure if this will noticeably improve gaming speed. Any advice would be helpful.

It's a strong option that should boost performance across many titles, but oblivion remains poorly optimized—so no magical fixes are expected.

Man, you're questioning if the game is actually bad. It seems like adding more power isn't making a difference. I was expecting a steady 60fps in 1080p.

The choice depends on the specific game and the average performance figures for each model.

The version released as Oblivion Remastered has been updated, and there is a performance patch currently being developed. There have been no attempts to use Nexus mods for performance improvements.

Yeah, that should work fine. A 5700x3d with an 9060xt can maintain around 60fps at 1080p most of the time, though some sections might lag slightly due to poor game optimization. A performance update should help, but right now it's just not optimized well.

Ah ok, guess I'll just get my CPU in the meantime and wait for a patch. I was really excited to play but the stuttering and low FPS is too much to actually enjoy the game.

Oblivion is not a poorly optimized game; it's a large open world title built for UE5, which is known to struggle with such projects. An upcoming update targeting the engine itself is expected to improve performance. Hopefully that will help.

The Oblivion Remaster also introduces ray tracing via the "Lumen" feature, allowing you to choose between hardware or software rendering. If your graphics card and CPU are both mediocre, performance will suffer regardless of your selection.

However, with decent hardware and proper settings, it runs smoothly. For instance, on a 9800X3D and 4080, I achieve over 100 FPS in 4K with DLSS and frame generation enabled. Software Lumen at high quality works well with the 9800X3D's capabilities. At lower resolutions or mixed settings, it can maintain similar frame rates even on less powerful systems.

You'd notice a noticeable improvement in certain CPU-intensive games, while little to no benefit appears in others. Also, consider upgrading your RAM from 16GB to 32GB since 16GB is becoming a constraint for some newer titles.

Fair enough, I might have exaggerated a little because it bothers me, but still I believe they picked an engine that was poorly optimized for this kind of game, leading to poor performance in certain areas that even powerful PCs can't fully improve.
