Does FPS drop and stutter on a good PC?
Does FPS drop and stutter on a good PC?
Hello everyone,
my PC specifications are as follows:
GPU: RTX 2070 Super
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core
RAM: 16 GB
Display: 60hz 3840 x 2160
I assembled that system about four years ago with a friend and it handled Warzone and Apex Legends smoothly. After the excitement, I began playing CSGO and tried Apex a few times. CSGO worked well, while Apex experienced some stutters and lag that didn’t bothers me much since I mostly played CS. Following the release of CS2, I encountered similar issues with stutters and significant FPS drops.
I have a download speed around 15 mbyte/s and typically experience a ping of 40-60ms. Frequently there are stutters and FPS drops while playing, even though my graphics card is only running at 40% capacity. The GPU temperature is at 60°C and the CPU at 50-80°C. I’ve cleaned my PC thoroughly, not dismantling it, but ensuring it’s as clean as possible.
I’m really frustrated because I don’t know what to do or what might be causing this poor performance after all these years. Do anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to resolve this?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's important to provide detailed system information. Please list your full specifications in the following order:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. Also, mention the BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
You might want to try using DDU and reinstalling the latest GPU drivers via an elevated command, such as Right click > Run as Administrator, to help resolve your issue.
Stuttering happens because of a brief shortage of an essential component. This can be due to the CPU or even the RAM. What’s your CPU cooler? My guess is you might experience occasional thermal throttling. Temperatures between 50-80°C are generally acceptable, though averages don’t fully reflect real conditions. Pay attention to individual cases. Ryzen may limit performance at around 85°C, while Intel typically caps at 100°C. Use Hwmonitor to check core temperatures and clock speeds. A red alert on your cooler suggests it has throttled before recovering. If it’s an AIO cooler, it’s likely nearing failure.
