Does Coil have a buzzing noise?
Hi everyone, is a little bit of cool whine okay? On my new Rog only on battery there is a bit of coil whine, other than that there’s no coil whine. It comes and goes too. Coil whine Obviously this was recorded extremely close to the laptop and isn’t this loud in person. Cheers!
There isn't a simple fix for coil whine, like just updating a driver or turning off a Windows setting. It is a physical issue of your graphics card (or any other part you can hear making the noise). So, the only real fixes will have to be physical in nature. Some choices include making sure your case is sealed tight, adding some soundproofing foam, slowing down the frame rate, waiting it out, swapping the noisy part, figuring out why it happens, adjusting fan speeds, or dealing with it. Noise-cancelling headphones can really help by blocking out high-pitched sounds, so you might consider using those too.
I just did a quick check on the audio with Audacity. It felt close to an accident, but that happens later. First off, I couldn't tell if there was normal coil whine sound. So I turned the view to the spectrum and looked around. There seemed like maybe a 15khz vague tone, so I guess aging made me miss that sound. Spoiler: don't do this. This was totally stupid of me because I had to test to prove it myself. How? In Audacity you can make any frequency sound pretty easy, and I did so for a 15khz tone. BUT - I forgot to adjust the volume, so it sounded like my ears were shredded apart quickly, taking off the headphones. But at least I confirmed I'm pretty much able to hear sounds up to 15khz. Point is - I personally cannot hear any sound that looks like coil whine. However it sounds more like you have a loud fan.

I’m pretty sure there is coil whine though as I’ve checked and heard this whine sound every now and again and the fans aren’t kicked in, like no RPM. Here’s another one where you can hear it better. Ok, this sounded totally different from what we had before. With this, I'd say it sounds more like coil whine - not just one pitch but a mix of many notes. This isn't something anyone can fix themselves, but at least you can prove the problem is real.
No worries there! Having coil whine on a brand new laptop isn't uncommon, so don't worry about it at all.
