So, every device (wifi and ethernet) is failing to connect on the first try. Sometimes (mainly with browsers) it works with one refresh. Other times (games, apps, streaming services) it takes multiple retries and sometimes just leaving it alone for a while for it to actually work. 1) I tried the public DNS servers as I had been recommended by other forums I looked up. It worked for a day then came back that night. 2) I've called the ISP (TDS), and they came and measured the connection and said there's nothing they can do since I have my own equipment. 3) I have a Netgear Nighthawk Modem and a Netgear Nighthawk Router. Both have all lights working. So, I called Netgear (multiple times) with my issue. First time they had me change DNS Servers, it worked for a little then stopped again. Second time they had me reset the router to default settings and then change the DNS server again, worked for a little then stopped again. (starting to see a pattern?) Third time they had me connect to the modem directly, get the information from the modem (ipv4 address, subnet mask, mac address, etc.) and manually put that information into the router's settings. Again, it worked for a little then stopped. This time when it stopped the router lost all internet capabilities until I reset it to default settings. I did a packet loss test and found that the first 30-40 packets that get sent have around 290ms response time where the rest have around 50-80ms Now I'm waiting on a callback from netgear's "Level 2 Troubleshooting Team" to see if they can figure it out. Any ideas? This is kind of annoying to deal with given my wife works from home and we are both gamers outside of that.

1) Turn off IPv6. 2) Check the router's logs for clues about what's going on. Who has full control of the router? You'll need someone with that power to help you. 3) Open Command Prompt and run "ipconfig /all" without quotes. Paste those results here after copying them.

Howdy Sir! Sorry for the late reply, my work shift is during a really annoying time currently. 1) IPV6 has been disabled since before the issue occured 2) Router logs say that I am having a lot of "[LAN access from remote]" from random IP addresses and ports as well as RST scan and ACK scan DOS attacks, both from random IP addresses and ports. Given that this is a netgear router, I believe that it is fairly common for the false DOS attacks. I own the router therefore i have admin rights. ipconfig post (I deleted my PCs ip address and all the physical addresses) Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Big-Oof-PC Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Ethernet: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel® Ethernet Connection (7) I219-V DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, June 14, 2023 10:02:31 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Friday, June 16, 2023 6:32:41 AM Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection* 1: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection* 2: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes let me know if there's anything else i need to get! Run "ipconfig /all" to see what's going on. You can try changing your DNS servers to Google's ones at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Here is a sample output from my command line: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . is hsd[Redacted]. Description . is Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller Physical Address. It shows the physical address as 8C-EC-4B-2E-AB-2C. DHCP Enabled says Yes, and Autoconfiguration also says Yes. I have an IPv4 Address of 192.168.1.201 (Preferred). The Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0. My lease was obtained on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 5:55 AM and it expires on Friday, June 23, 2023 at the same time. The Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1, just like the DNS Servers which are also 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. NetBIOS over Tcpip is Enabled. Even though this shouldn't change anything much, making the lease time longer might help.

We tried switching to several different DNS servers like Google's Netgear's own one, and another TDS provider, but nothing worked better than before. Since Google's DNS is open to everyone, people worry that it could be unsafe for us.

Change the DNS on your computer's end device instead of the router. The router often acts as a proxy and sometimes doesn't work perfectly well. Try checking the settings in your browser to make sure the DNS isn't being changed overriden. You can test it by setting things up in a browser just to see if it makes any difference.
