Does a random drop in internet happen right after I plug in my new router?
Hey guys, here is a problem with my TP-Link EAP620HD upstairs access point. My old Netgear GS728TP switch was free from work and worked great with all our stuff at home until I added the access point every couple of minutes. Now some devices like my iPhone stop getting internet but they still say they are connected to the access point. Maybe it's because of how I set things up? If I plug the access point straight into my router, the connection never drops for that device either. It has been hard to figure this out and I'm wondering if I missed a step when setting everything up. I've set the IP address to static on the access point and put the switch in "switch" mode instead of routing.
Does the AP have any kind of log? The switch should have a log to show if the port went down. Just looking at the specs, are you using a PoE+ port on your switch? I'm not sure if the AP needs PoE+ or just that it supports it.
Look for the ECO setting on your switch and unplug it so it turns off.
If you can plug that thing in to the router, you'll probably need a special adapter (POE injector) because most routers don't have those little ports built-in. Just try putting the adapter into the switch instead.
The access point came with a power plug. When I plugged it straight into my router instead of its own charger, it used the router as its power source.
Okay. So you can turn off the power to the AP. Just plug the AP into that final spot using an official Power over Ethernet (POE) adapter. Connect this adapter directly to your switch instead of to the router. If things go wrong, maybe it's just a bad cable.
