I’m preparing a fresh setup and need a 10G NIC for my new PC. I’m unsure if a B650 will work with the 7900 XTX and 10G NIC, especially regarding PCI-E lanes. Since my last build was over six years ago, my experience is limited.

Typical boards support the highest lane at x16 while keeping x4 in lower sections. Running a Gen4 GPU at x8 won't significantly change performance. Prioritize PCIe slot placement to accommodate additional devices given current GPU sizes. Useful guide for understanding slot and lane layout.

b650 supports 36 PCIe lanes. Using a 10G NiMX2 will require 4 lanes, while the GPU needs 16. It mainly comes down to the available space physically.

Consider a 10G NIC while ignoring PCIe lanes. Some boards now include 10GB LAN ports, which could be worth exploring. Allocate your budget for the NIC and motherboard together to get a superior board and enjoy additional advantages beyond just the LAN port.

It varies; the most affordable AM5 card with 10GbE is the X670E Creator Wifi priced around $440. It probably won’t beat a high-end B650 board paired with a 10GBASE-T NIC. The main worry isn’t the PCIe lanes but the size of the 7900xtx chip and its placement.

Wow, really? I assumed there were more options with lower prices for 10GBE, but I didn't expect that many deals.

It's definitely something to worry about too. But I can always use a PCI-E adapter and adjust its position, maybe it'll work despite the issues.

I located several motherboards in Denmark priced between 5,000 and 6,000 DKK. That’s more than twice the cost of a standard motherboard and a 10G NIC. I was also surprised by the price variation.
