To simplify your network, you're planning to relocate your router with a built-in modem into an Unraid server, using pfSense to handle its functions. Regarding PCI cards for this setup, it seems you might be targeting the Weinglas line—those specific cards aren't available in the current versions. Check the official documentation or contact your vendor for alternatives.

Unfortunately, the cards aren't available. At one time DOCSIS 2.0 PCIe cards existed, but they won't deliver the speeds you need and are probably not permitted on your provider's network.

Opt for turning off the router features on your ISP equipment and rely solely on it to connect to your server. This doesn’t eliminate a device, but it lets you utilize pfSense.

Jeah, but this doesnt help me to reduce the complexity. I Was hoping to reduce the point of failures in my home network. Going into bridge Mode is no option for me because error messages and broadcasts are not forwarded to the router. This results in unknown parameters why my Internet is down. So I have to Check the Modem anyways.

Are you experiencing frequent internet outages? You're currently using a DOCSIS 3 setup, which typically requires only a modem connection once a year at most. When issues arise, you simply connect a laptop via LAN cable. While I might be fortunate with a reliable connection, I've found DOCSIS networks generally quite dependable.

Sure, I had to submit logs a few months ago to secure a significant refund since the service was unreliable due to instability. Still, even a modem in bridge mode has two points of failure, which isn’t the goal when shifting everything to my Unraid setup to simplify things.

You probably face signal problems because of an unstable connection. It might stem from the ISP or the building wiring. I’m not certain about ISPs in Germany, but in the US, ISPs aren’t liable for internal wiring issues.

Addressing your request will not lower the overall complexity or failure points. Rather of a single standalone modem being a failure point, now the PCI card is considered the issue. If you're facing problems, it's probably due to a signal problem with the line. You might also consider purchasing a reliable standalone DOCSIS 3.0 modem, provided your ISP permits third-party devices. The ISP's own modems are usually unreliable.
