At first glance, I'm asking about the parts inside that computer. But not every piece of hardware (like the main board or processor) works okay with Windows 11.

Do you need a motherboard or a CPU for an old computer? If so, I suggest trying Pop!_OS. It is a type of Linux that feels easy and uses very little power. You won't even have to use the command line if you don't want to.

Don't put your operating system on an old hard drive right now, because that will slow down everything. Your computer will wait too long for things to happen. Windows 11 is only officially supported by new Intel chips or newer AMD Ryzen chips and certain high-end graphics cards. Instead of keeping using the old parts, buy a fast SSD stick. Put it in your PC. Download the official Windows installer from Microsoft onto a USB drive and use that to install the system on your hard drives.

That is why I recommended using Linux because it works well on most computers and runs smoothly.

Yes, but the key is when someone says they want to play games on their PC. Doing this needs some extra steps with Wine (and other tools), which isn't easy for beginners. Also, if the question was about running Windows 11 on old computer parts and a hard drive, it's probably fine if the OP can't do that because it won't work well anyway.

You're on a hard-to-fix platform, and just because you got Windows 11 it doesn't mean you can always keep using it. Microsoft might change things soon that won't work for your PC or laptop anymore. Then you'll be stuck without any choice left.

Do you really want to buy Windows 11 because it's going to run so slowly on an old hard drive?

Think of a solid state drive like a big computer or operating system for a car; both can run perfectly fine without each other, but they aren't actually part of the same thing. I'm not sure if that connection matters here, since it's probably not important to this situation at all.

Yeah, but W11 is likely the easiest to use.
