Hey everyone. I'm looking for feedback on whether this build is suitable for a few years of gaming and video editing. I'm focusing on the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, keeping the GPU under 3070. Also wondering if a 500W power supply will suffice? I saw the PC parts section say it's fine. Should I go for 700W right away? The RAM upgrade will come later, and I plan to add an extra 16GB later.
Is there a reason why you don't go for i7 11700? If you want to go for the future, why don't get the newest stuff available? Is there a reason why you use a SATA SSD? Your MB supports M.2 SSDs... (like 970 evo) No big price difference, huge speed difference for lots of data, no cables, smaller. I'm confused, because you get a $50 CPU cooler because the stock cooler is too loud, but you only spend $35 on the PSU, so I think it will be loud.
I didn't find any noise specifications, but for an i7 it looks too inexpensive and it lacks modularity, which means a lot of unnecessary cables. Since you already have one, upgrading later should work fine. When I started building my first system in 2015, I chose maximum performance for the lowest cost. I used an i7, GTX 970, a cheap power supply and a mediocre case. At first it seemed great due to the affordable performance, but after several years the PSU noise and case quality became bothersome. If I invest $1000 in a PC, I expect it to be quiet and stylish. I learned that a good case and power supply will last for about a decade, so don't compromise on the PSU. Investing in a high-quality PSU every ten years is actually more economical than buying cheaper ones every few years and it stays quiet and reliable for a long time.
