If people continue purchasing titles from Ubisoft and businesses push console-style simplification of PC games, then yes there will be some incentive to switch to consoles—but it’s not strong enough. Here are the points against going to a console: 1. Higher sales on PC drive prices to unrealistic levels. 2. PC offers far more versatility than gaming. 3. There are still numerous superior-looking PC games available. 4. Keyboard and mouse controls are standard in many titles, and playing that way can be more enjoyable than using a controller. Unless I mention anything else, others might expand on my ideas.
It's totally understandable to miss coffee. Your thoughts are relatable, and it's clear you're open to suggestions. I began this journey as a hobby, but I realize I've become a bit too focused lately.
I concur. There are numerous sales, particularly through Steam and GOG. Point 2: Definitely. As a web and graphic developer/designer, I always have a robust machine. Using a mouse and keyboard is clearly more precise in FPS games compared to a controller.
I see your worry about the PC port improvements. Still, if creators aren’t investing effort to make the experience better, then why invest additional time and resources just to enjoy their game? This is my perspective at least.
Hey, you don’t really understand what 500MHz means—it’s the clock speed of your GPU. Some graphics cards have issues where they only work at half power, so a 780 might drop to 760 right away. On a PC, you can do things like use Skype or Teamspeak, stream music, or multitask while loading games. You can upgrade components and play games from the early 2000s without worrying about compatibility issues like 60fps, 120fps, 144fps, or higher resolutions. Surround gaming is endless, and a computer is basically just another gaming rig. Let me know, how well could you write an essay on your PS4?
I'm tired of needing to keep updating everything. I understand it's not necessary, but as I mentioned in my earlier post, it mostly affects me personally. I always have a solid setup. I work as a web and graphic designer/developer. I realize that when I set up a rig for work, I won't need constant upgrades to stay current with the tools I use. I thought this discussion would be tough, but at least two of the other people joined...lol
Graphics play a minor role in this situation. You might not see much visual difference, but you'll definitely feel the impact of being stuck at 30 FPS. You won't have the freedom to use a keyboard and mouse in games that require them. You'll also lose the ability to adjust the trade-off between visual quality and performance to your preference. Taking Assassin's Creed: Unity as an example, it seems to be the starting point for this discussion, yes, it's frustrating for high-end PC owners. However, the console version usually offers 18-20 FPS at most, with a strict cap of 30 FPS. That doesn't sound like a good alternative. Recently, a few major ports have received significant negative attention, but overall, PC ports have improved rather than declined. Still, releasing a poor port is a valid criticism for the developer or publisher, not the platform itself.
