I received one of the combo offers from Newegg for an AMD EPYC processor and a motherboard. The first board's Memory D0 wasn't detected, so it was replaced and swapped with a working unit. The same happened with D0 on the second board, which came with a new motherboard and CPU. In each case, memory was replaced and swapped with a known good stick, but the issue persisted. I contacted Newegg for an RMA. The forums suggest resetting the CPU and checking the proper torque settings. What steps should I follow?
Epic and Threadripper CPUs come with an excessive number of pins, making it hard to guess the pressure accurately. The ideal setting is about 14lb/inch or 1.5nm. Install them in 1-2-3 and then unscrew 3-2-1. You might already have a torque issue or need to purchase one. I assumed these CPUs would come with one, right?
The combo from New Egg includes the CPU with pre-installed and verified components. Both units were functional, with only one memory stick installed. From what I understand, this suggests the board wasn't fully tested. I’m wondering if you’ll need the AMD wrench—currently around $30 on eBay.
You'll need the AMD wrench. It's interesting they didn't add it with you. If you get a ThreadRipper or Epyc CPU, it should already be in the box.
The tool is here, yet I can't find a way to use it. Are all versions identical?
