Hi everyone, I'm seeking recommendations on top free antivirus options. I've tried an average one and want to know which ones are truly excellent without cost.

On Windows 8.1, the built-in antivirus works well with MalwareBytes. For Windows 7, Windows Security Essentials provides solid protection. AVG performs poorly, flagging all activity as malicious.

Optimal protection comes from basic habits. Avoid clicking suspicious pop-ups or ads promising downloads or prizes. Install reliable antivirus tools such as Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, AVG, or Avast. These programs effectively identify known threats. I don’t have coding experience or security expertise, so I can’t definitively say which is superior.

Remember that although many strong antivirus tools exist, the most reliable defense is your own awareness. I rely on this method and have stayed virus-free since 1993.

Hey, it’s been a while. I used to work in IT, so I’m not always catching up on things that get forgotten. Thanks for reaching out!
