You currently have an Intel i3-10100f with a B460 chipset, 16GB of 3000MHz DDR4 RAM, an RX 480 graphics card, and a RPM 750 power supply. You’re considering purchasing a Ryzen 7 2700X with an MSI X470 Aorus Ultra gaming motherboard for around $289. Since a new R5 3600 would cost more, should you proceed with this offer? The processor and RAM were recently acquired, either new or used for over a year. Thank you ahead of time.
You can purchase an I7-10600KF for the same cost and it will perform exceptionally well. It was decent when it launched, but now it serves as a power source for your NAS, HTPC, and visitor gaming PC. The most logical approach seems to be repurposing the Intel components and eventually integrating a 3000/5000 series later.
The 2700x is becoming quite outdated, even though it’s an 8C/16T processor. Despite being a faster chip than older models, its cores lag behind newer CPUs. If you’re not planning to replace your motherboard, consider going with a 10700K (or the non-K variant since overclocking isn’t possible on your current board), which offers quicker cores while still supporting 8C/16T architecture.
