I was thinking about upgrading my gaming PC, which I bought in 2018. Before making a purchase, I wanted to know if a straightforward upgrade would be more suitable.
My current configuration is:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core at 3.59 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
RAM: 64 GB DDR4
Motherboard: Gigabyte A520 Aorus Elite
OS: Windows 11 64-bit
Monitor: Predator XB1 27'' @144Hz
I’m wondering if adding more RAM or swapping the GPU would be a better choice?
Please share some useful tips and advice.
Thanks.

The likelihood of additional RAM improving performance is very slim...unless you have a specific need for the system. We don't know if that's accurate.
Tell us about your concerns. What issue are you facing?
Or simply want to invest in something?
What do you expect from this purchase? What could lead to disappointment?

I tried to improve my setup. If it doesn’t bring significant results, I’ll hold off.

CPU and GPU upgrades are straightforward. It all comes down to your needs.
1080 Ti remains quite good, similar to an RTX 3060 with 12GB.
A 4070 Super or a 4070 Ti Super would fit right in.
Ryzen 5700X3D or 5800X3D would definitely boost minimum FPS without much extra cost.

Is there anything you're experiencing problems with?
Are there any performance concerns with your computer?
What are the primary functions you perform on your PC?

If you believe your goal is an enhanced gaming experience: Game performance depends on the balance of CPU power and graphics ability. Try this easy check: Play your games, but reduce resolution and visual effects. This puts extra load on the graphics card. An increase in FPS suggests your CPU can handle better graphics settings. If your FPS remains unchanged, you’re likely CPU-bound. Your motherboard supports a 5800X CPU upgrade. That’s straightforward. For gaming purposes only, a 5800X3d would be ideal, but other options won’t match its performance. Improvements beyond this may need a motherboard change. You have ample RAM. I think boosting RAM speed isn’t necessary. What is your PSU model? This could greatly influence how much GPU upgrades are possible. When replacing a graphics card, make a significant jump in power or you might not get the results you expect. Skip a level on Tom’s GPU hierarchy chart: A model in the 3070 series or higher would be best. The differences in price and performance between AMD and NVIDIA are small. It’s better to stick with NVIDIA for ease; driver support has a learning curve.

It seems the display is likely 1440p, which means you should consider a new graphics card first, then a CPU. The choice will depend on your power supply and budget.

Thanks for the support. The "Tom's gpu hierarchy chart" was very useful. I attempted a benchmark test but ended up being overwhelmed. 😕
I'm planning to search for a different GPU, as it's mostly used for gaming.
Do you know any easy ways to check the power supply I have?
