Hello,
I’m a guitarist looking to find an Office/Gamer chair that suits both my playing and everyday needs. I’ve put this question here because I want to reach the right people.

I’m hoping for a gaming chair instead of a standard office chair, as they offer better comfort and stronger support for my neck and back. I don’t want to spend too much money, but I need it to have adjustable features – specifically the ability to change the back angle and chair height.

I don’t want arms that are too short or fixed; either removable or movable would be ideal. Ideally, I’d prefer a chair without arms at all, since having them could make using it difficult. If I can’t find one with arms, I’d still like something with them for comfort when not playing.

I’m considering buying a secondhand chair on Gumtree or similar sites, but I’d like to get something that either:
- Includes arms that fold down easily with a simple mechanism, or
- Has arms that can be unscrewed quickly and simply.

If that’s not possible, maybe a small handheld powered screwdriver could help.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Dylan Beckett

Absolutely, finding such a chair is quite rare.

Search for chairs featuring flip-up or removable arms to check if they meet your other requirements.
Check online options on the provided links to compare features.
Most such chairs allow adjusting the back angle, releasing the lock, moving back, and sliding a lever to set the new position.
Even basic models can adjust height.

I've definitely tried and been through that process... and I assure you, it's not as straightforward as it seems. Initially, it should be a chair that can be shipped to Australia, but those secondary distributors will likely charge a lot of money for a large, heavy chair. Therefore, platforms like eBay or Amazon seem more suitable for international online purchases. Those two options you mentioned might look appealing at first, but after reviewing many similar listings, I realize the language used is often misleading.

For instance, moving the backrest independently (not connected to the seat) is quite common. Most office and gaming chairs have fixed arms that only move slightly up and down, which doesn't help in my case. Then there are those chairs with detachable arms—they usually lock the backrest and seat together. Either you can't adjust them relative to each other, or you can only change them in fixed patterns, like the one you described.

Instead of just moving the backrest, most designs require tilting the locked backrest and seat backward, almost like lying down. This is the main issue I'm encountering—it seems nearly all chairs behave this way.

I’m looking for a chair with fully adjustable arms, independent backrest movement, seat tilt, and height adjustment. A mesh back would be ideal. But finding something under $292 AU/USD is extremely difficult, even if I can stretch my budget to around $182–$250 AU/USD.

Additionally, even if I find a good model that fits my budget, they often block searches for other similar listings. Your help would mean a lot as I'm really struggling here. I've checked places like Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Ikea, and Super Amart, but none match my needs without breaking the bank. The exchange rate between AU and USD is also a big hurdle.

Thank you for your time.
