Do you need a replacement power supply unit?
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone could assist in choosing the appropriate power supply for my recent GPU upgrade. My current setup includes an RTX 4090, an i9-10850k processor, a Corsair H150i Elite Capellix CPU cooler, and three Corsair case fans. I’ve read that my Thermaltake toughpower 850W PSU might not be the best fit and could limit performance, so I’m looking for something more suitable. I’m aiming for a price under 240W or close to that. Any recommendations would be really helpful. Thanks!
i9-10850K - 125W, RTX 4090 - 400W = 525W, MBD: 90W, SSD+RAM+HDD = Maximum. 100W.
Total: 715W — recommending a budget PSU of at least 850W from Corsair (CV or higher) or Gigabyte would be ideal.
You should expect more wattage than you anticipate.
4090 cards require significant power.
However, newer models such as the 3000 and 4000 series can experience very high demand surges that double the standard power needs.

Consider a 1000w unit. Don’t stress about power consumption; a PSU will only draw the power it actually needs, no matter its maximum rating.
Then, opt for a reliable model. Most 1000w options come with a solid 10-year warranty.
Search for Corsair RMA, Seasonic Focus, or Prime.
Here’s a Seasonic Prime 1300w unit featuring a 12-year warranty.
It’s actually more affordable than the 1000w alternative:
