I've been searching extensively on Github and other platforms, including the Dread MS Store, using various search techniques to improve my results. However, I haven't succeeded after testing hundreds of apps, many of which gave misleading information about their capabilities.
Booo!
What I'm looking for is:
- A plugin or alternative for the default Windows Taskbar clock/date icon's clickable calendar popup.
- The ability to highlight events, birthdays, and holidays in the current view.
- The option to modify these events by double-clicking on a day.
I don't want:
- A full-screen app
- Requirement to log in with a Microsoft account (though I can use a Google account)
- Any needs for MS Mail, Calendar, or Outlook/365
- Specific MS Store requirements (including AppXPackages)
Feel free to ignore the list of 30 apps I've tried so far—they're unlikely to meet all my needs.
Haaaalp.

I think I checked the Google Calendar. It might not fully replace the built-in Windows calendar, but it seems to satisfy your other needs. I’m not familiar with any Windows component substitutes, though someone might develop one in the future.

For comparison, I also think the built-in Windows calendar with the taskbar is missing something. Still unsure if Google owns the features that make its calendar useful.
