No need to assume a complete release is free unless you have Windows 7. The trial version functions adequately, though it occasionally sends a notification reminder.

Favorable updates, maybe: If your account is linked to Microsoft (not a local one), your product key belongs to that account. Just download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool, prepare a disk or USB, boot from it on your PC, and install Windows 10. On the product key screen, you’ll see an option like “I don’t have a product key,” which lets you skip the setup and continue. After installation, use the same Microsoft account credentials you used before. Once inside, check for updates, install any required drivers, and soon Windows should be activated again. If not, restart and it should work.
