Hi there, I found my husband's old laptop and it's running really slow. I'm not very tech-savvy, so my sister recommended looking for free online help. I need someone to assist me and also help me set up a new account on the device. Please help me!

What is the laptop's brand and model?
Which Windows update are you running?
Are you able to access and operate the laptop at this moment?
Is there someone else nearby who might need to use it?

ALL HP models feature the model number in several places: on the wrist rest beneath the keyboard, on the display bezel, or on the back side. Without this detail it's hard to proceed further.

Details are important. Understanding the actual model (typically a label at the bottom) will assist in identifying what upgrades are possible. Recognizing the Windows version will aid in providing setup instructions for an account. I presume the current admin account is being used, allowing full access to your data. Just a heads-up.
A complete, clean Windows installation with only your account details would offer the highest level of privacy. Would that be the best approach?

If that's accurate, it's certainly not an old laptop.

If it was me, I would completely reinstall Windows. Here is a guide: https://forums. That laptop is new enough and should be capable enough to perform typical tasks fairly quickly. Definitely NOT a gaming or high performance system....at all.
