SolidWorks is my top choice, though it costs around $150 per year for students and about $7,500 otherwise. Free options like Inventor make it a viable alternative.

I also notice you can obtain CREO 2.0 at no cost if you're a university student. It offers more features than Inventor or SolidWorks, though it lacks ease of use. Avoid it if you lack substantial modeling skills. http://support.ptc.com/appserver/wcms/fo..._dbkey=482
