Hey guys, I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad 3 Gaming -15ACH6. It has an internal NVMe SSD with Windows 11 installed and it works fine most of the time. But sometimes when I turn it on, the drive stops showing up and disappears from the BIOS boot menu. The laptop just gives an error saying "Boot failed" or "boot device not found," and then lists all the non-bootable devices there are none. To fix this, I just left the laptop off for a few seconds or a minute and it started working again into Windows without any problems. I thought maybe it was a BIOS issue, so I recently updated to the latest BIOS available for my laptop, but the problem is still here. One thing you might know is that yes, I opened up this laptop once when it was bought last year to upgrade the RAM by adding another 8 gig stick and also added an extra SATA SSD. That extra drive didn't have any operating system on it; it's only used for storing apps and games. Should I open it up again and try re-seating the SSD or is this related to some other issue? Please let me know, since this problem started happening to my laptop just a few weeks ago. Considering the laptop is rather new, I find this worrying about its overall health. Thanks!
Welcome to the forums! You said you updated the BIOS for this laptop. Let's try it: turn off the computer, take it apart, unplug the battery, and keep pressing the power button for 30 seconds without any power coming on. Then plug in the battery again and start up the machine. If something still goes wrong, can you look around to find out what kind of SSD you have?
Hey, I actually wanted to know just one thing: would opening the laptop be needed? I tried doing this without opening anything, completely draining the battery. I know that can hurt batteries, but it's easier than having to open up and risk breaking those little plastic tabs. That didn't fix anything at all, and the problem kept coming back. The SSD in question is the Samsung MZALQ256HBJD-00BL2. It seems pretty common when you look it up online.
Hey! Is there a fix? Should I try something new? Anything to help me out? Oh, yesterday it all went crazy, the computer turned on but shows no picture at all now. The keyboard lit up and the backlight worked fine before, so everything was working until recently. But there is absolutely no display. Even pressing caps lock didn't light it up either, which means it isn't actually starting properly. I'm glad someone in the Lenovo forums suggested a full power discharge by holding the button down for 60 seconds and then plugging it back in. After waiting just a few seconds, it started spinning again like new. I thought maybe this was a BIOS problem so I reset that too, but now it boots fine. Who knows if it will break again? Any permanent fixes guys? Since this thing seems to be getting worse, and I don't even want to risk my laptop in any way or form, please help. Thanks!
