Do new PSU cables function properly?
Hello, you placed an order for new Corsair PSU cables for your Corsair 1000x. After installation, there was no power at all. You confirmed all connections multiple times and reinstalled the old cables without issues. Do you have any suggestions?
they were actually ordered directly from the Corsair online store? if not, where did they come from?
If you purchased the cables from Corsair or an authorized reseller, did you verify their compatibility with this list? Checking for proper fit is essential because using incorrect cables may cause "magic smoke" and sparks from the motherboard, GPU, or PSU. Although your system managed to install the new cables without issues, I would still be careful before reusing them. Test the cables with a multimeter set to Ohms (Continuity) while they're disconnected from the power supply and other devices to confirm they match the original ones exactly.
Very good questions. They are Corsair Brand and bought from Newegg. The ad and the same box set from Corsair said they were compatible with the RMx series PSU. The box mentioned there should have been a bag and related documentation, which were missing but the box was sealed. The cables have capacitors that the original equipment manufacturer does not have. Could this have made a difference? I just wanted to say that the PSU and OEM cables were functioning properly; I was only seeking some more attractive cables.
Capacitors in cables are meant to lower the ripple voltage, nothing else. Your motherboard and GPU also have capacitors, so the ones in the new cables should work fine. I think the issue probably isn’t here.
I should be careful not to assume a general cable set works with all RMx series power supplies. I own several Corsair units and always double-check cables that aren’t included with each PSU.
When purchasing additional Corsair modular leads, I thoroughly test them using a multimeter set for continuity and then for the 20V DC range. I repeatedly check before connecting new modular power cables to devices like a motherboard, GPU, or hard drive. It’s easy to damage expensive equipment if you skip compatibility checks.
It’s possible one of your key cables (24-way) had a faulty connection, which might explain why the system failed to start, but that seems unlikely.
I understand there could be an open or faulty component. While reviewing corsairs warnings, I noticed a problem similar to what I’m experiencing with some RM1200/RM1200i models and issues with certain motherboards and GPUs. Corsair is asking for specific PSUs to be sent quickly and they are replacing them. They are now investigating my concern. I’ll inform everyone. Until then, I’ve returned the cables to Newegg marking them defective. Once Corsair approves, I’ll buy a new set directly from them... thank you for the details. I’ll follow your advice and verify continuity before installing them...
