Do I really need to speed up my CPU?
Do I really need to speed up my CPU?
I've heard that you shouldn't overclock the AMD Ryzen 7 2700 and instead tweak PBO instead. I'm wondering which one to pick? Right now I have a 4ghz all core overclock with PBO turned off. I don't know much about Ryzen so what do you guys think? Here is my gear: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 ASUS TUF X470-PLUS GAMING NZXT Kraken x52 AIO CPU Cooler 32GB (16gb x 2) HyperX Fury DDR4 2666 (OC'd to 3466) ASUS TUF X3 GTX 1660 Super 6GB 1TB WD Black SN750 NVME M.2 SSD XFX TS-550 PSU
4GHz can be a great overclock for daily use if the temperature and voltage stay low enough. Usually, the fastest all-core setting in Ryzen is pretty much its maximum boost speed. Because how Ryzen's boost (PBO) works, most of that extra power comes from just one core. At 4GHz, you might be...
Four gigahertz is a great overclock for the day if your temps and voltages stay low. Most usually, Ryzen's highest single-core boost comes right up to that four-gigahertz mark. Because of how Boost (PBO) works on these chips, most of that extra power happens on just one core while you run at 4GHz. You might lose a little bit of speed compared to what you'd get running slower, like 4.1 gigahertz or under PBO. The only thing we need to figure out is how much voltage and heat it takes for us to reach that four-gigahertz point, and how much better the single-core performance would be if we pushed it up even further to 4.1 or higher.
