Do I possess sufficient power to increase performance?
Do I possess sufficient power to increase performance?
CPU model is i7-8700k with a thermal cooler Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT. The system uses an ASUS Prime Z370-A motherboard, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB DDR4-3200 memory, an EVGA GeForce 1070 Ti 8 GB SC Gaming GPU, and a BitFenix Whisper M 80 Plus Gold Full Modular 550W PSU. I’m starting from scratch and plan to overclock the CPU to 4.7/4.8 GHz without adjusting the settings for the 1070 Ti. I need to confirm if my power supply provides sufficient capacity for this upgrade.
It appears that when executed properly, the additional power consumption is likely just 15-20W for the CPU or system.
The 650 w is suggested for the 1070 ti; you might want to think about upgrading your psu for more overclocking.
With the stock configuration for the 1070 Ti and just the CPU overclocked, is your PSU adequate? I’m not keen on buying another power supply, haha.
I strongly advise against attempting this, as it could lead to unexpected system shutdowns.
It's unlikely you'll exceed 400W even with a reasonable overclock setting.
