Do I need to worry?
Do I need to worry?
Since yesterday, a faint smell of hot plastic is coming around every now and then. It smells just like a microwave container that was too hot to handle. I have HWInfo open all the time, but only the CPU gets really hot at 80C or higher sometimes, going up to 95C depending on my game. Everything else stays between 45C and 55C. The only thing I can't control is the power supply unit, so what should i do about that? When I first noticed it, I was playing DCS for four hours, then after twenty minutes, the game started lagging a lot but nothing changed in the temperatures. After restarting the game, everything worked fine again and my system runs perfectly now, except for that smell which keeps coming back and making me feel paranoid. See the spoiler of my PC build below.
You should check all parts and how they are connected in your build. If your graphics card has a 12v-2x6/12VHPWR plug, make sure to look at that first thing. Please tell us these details: CPU, CPU cooler, Motherboard, RAM, SSD or HDD, GPU, PSU, Chassis, OS, and Monitor. Also give the age of your power supply apart from its brand and model number. Include the BIOS version on your motherboard right now. Before you check your signal space, signal space specs can change over time. When that happens this thread and all our advice will no longer help someone like you who is already in it. That's why we ask everyone to put their info here. The only thing I cannot monitor is the power supply, do you have something for that? Unless your PSU is connected using an USB port, the only way to see voltages on it is with software like HWinfo or similar tools; go to Measurement equipment Archives - ElmorLabs www.elmorlabs.com
I made a file with it so next time i can just copy paste it. CPU: Ryzen 7700X CPU cooler: Thermalright PA 120 SE Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk wifi (BIOS 7D75v1M) Ram: Gskill Trident Z neo 6000MHz SSD/HDD: ADATA SX6000LNP, Samsung 850EVO, 860QVO, 970EVO GPU: PowerColor RX7700XT Hellhound PSU: Be Quiet pure power 12M 850W about 1 year old Chassis: a cheap rebrand of (probably) an old corsair model with 4 aftermarket Arctic fans (3 intake 1 exhaust) OS: Windows 11 Monitor: DELL G2724D + LG 22M35 All drivers up to date. I know, too many SSDs but every time i need more space i keep the old and add another one. Next time i do a major upgrade i'll trim the fat.
I found some weird things in my HW info and checked my Fan Control settings yesterday morning. I got an update that changed everything, so some settings went back to normal. It took a long time for the temps to rise and the fans started spinning fast. Because of this delay, hot air didn't leave the case properly and made a bad smell.
