I just play on this computer, so if anything breaks it's okay because I can just reinstall things later. Should I save all of my stuff before starting a new game or app?

The default answer usually comes back yes, but that doesn't mean you have to say anything else. If you want nothing else right now, then maybe it's not worth bothering with.

I'd be happy to save all my stuff, especially since EA doesn't let me play too many times with so many copies.

Most online games save their copies on the cloud or on a launcher app. I like saving my game files manually because Steam makes it super easy. Other games need a few extra steps to let me move them, kind of like moving into a new house. My data limit is tight though; if I had to download every single game again, I'd probably run out of space pretty fast.

I guess my other games should be safe to save, but I don't know if Fortnite needs the same trick. Maybe I'm just being fancy and saying that?

Usually, there is a trick to start downloading and stop it right away. You just put a common file in place of the install one, then it thinks you downloaded it correctly. Steam makes this super simple because you can move a folder over there, tell it everything is fine, and that's it!

You can move your Steam installation and games to a different spot on your computer. You don't need special tools, just follow these simple steps: open the game launcher in Steam, select "Move," pick the new location, and click save. This lets you keep all your saves and games in one place while updating their positions.

Yeah, I've tried using Steam to move games around my hard drive before, but I haven't saved anything yet.

if you are only playing online games, this might be okay. but many other people's saves and settings stay saved on your computer in folders called 'User' or 'ProgramData'. some of these files even end up inside the folder where the game was installed. i used to lose hundreds of hours worth of progress in games before i started backing everything up properly. for the actual game data, you can often just copy the whole game folder to another place. you might also zip it up to save space. then when you reinstall the game, put it back in the spot where the program told you to and click "Verify Files" to make sure everything works right after you set things up again.

I have a story about me playing BeamNG.drive, which is a car game where you can build your own stuff. When I updated the game, my extra mods didn't work on the new version. I accidentally deleted the old copy of the game that had all my cool mods, so I wasted time trying to get them back. Then I tried to redownload some specific mod and got told it was gone because people said it wasn't working well enough anymore.
